Lacrosse 7th/8th Info/FAQ

Mission: The goal of GCVGL is to provide instruction in the fundamentals, skills and rules of game of girls’ lacrosse in a safe and fun environment. The emphasis is on developing skills and knowledge for all grade and ability levels, not on winning games. This is an instructional program, NOT a "travel" program. GCVGL is affiliated with the Philadelphia Area Girl’s Lacrosse Association (PAGLA) and follows its guidelines and rules.

Commitment: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY - While this is not a "travel" program, we expect that if you register, your daughter is committed to making practices and games. In past years, there have been a number of occasions when GCVGL teams have not had enough players to practice or play games. This is disappointing not only to the coaches who volunteer their time, but also to the girls who do make each practice and game. We understand that periodically there will be conflicts with other activities. However, to be fair to coaches, teammates, and the teams against which we play, we expect that by registering, your daughters are committed to making their team’s practices and games

Teams: While efforts are made to create balanced teams at all levels, this is not always possible and some disparity may result. This is in large part due to the "carpool request" option (we are the ONLY club to allow this). Also, years of "experience" does not always equate to ability. There may be some informal player evaluations utilized at the older levels to assist in placement. Our primary goal is to create a positive, developmental team experience for the players.

If you have nay questions please feel free to contact Kim Boyle.

Players without eye protection and colored mouth guards won't be permitted on the field. Jewelry is not permitted at any time (earrings must be removed, not just covered).

Home games will be played predominantly on Saturdays at the GCVGL Complex located behind Bryn Mawr Rehab. Check the field map for where your home games will be played. The complete game schedule will be posted on the website as will any rainout information. Rainout make-ups may be scheduled based on team and field availability.

Players are required to have a colored, molded mouthguard, eye protection and a regulation woman's or girls lacrosse stick. Mesh or boys lacrosse sticks are not allowed. Cleats or turf shoes are recommended but not required.

Coaches determine practice days. Prior to the season opener, your child's coach will call and introduce him or herself. S/he will give the details of the first practice where you will meet the other players and get a game schedule. Before the first game, the coach will distribute the uniform shirts.

Each game will be played 12 v 12 (including a goalie) with 20-25 minute halves. There is modified stick checking in the 7th/8th grade division (and may be instances of full checking according to PAGLA recommendations) and all the league referees are certified.
